La nostra storiaThirty years
From a search for Italian Freemasons in 1995 to the brethren of today: one lodge, measured in its Masters.
On Monday 14 October 1996, more than 200 Freemasons filled the Sydney Masonic Centre to see Lodge Galileo consecrated.
Planning had begun in 1995, when a group of Italian Freemasons went looking for others who shared their background. Brethren of Lodge Trinity No. 666 joined them, and Trinity agreed to sponsor the new lodge. The Grande Oriente d'Italia gave its support and recognition.
Grand Master MW Bro Rev Ray Green installed W Bro Renato Maffei as our first Master. The name was Galileo: the man who looked through a lens and measured what he saw. The motto was Vincit Veritas, truth will conquer.
Since then: lectures on Italian art, science and history; lodge meetings held inside the Jenolan Caves; the first FAME in 2013; and three lodges sponsored: Pythagoras, Miguel de Cervantes and Prince Charles Edward Stuart No. 1745.
